Songs of the Seers
Brahm Rishi Shri Devaraha Baba
अरे बच्चा सुना *
From the machan* he would say
His voice filling hearts with warmth of golden rays.
Soaked in deep devotion to Lord Ram
Inhaling and exhaling His name.
Guiding everyone to Ram chant
Be it humans, animals or plants.
Forever in Ishwar leen awastha* he was
Talking about Ram without any pause.
A Brahm Rishi, a Dev Rishi*
Divine qualities he possessed
Filled with love and benevolence,
Spoke of Vedanta and Upanishads with eloquence.
Air would fill with aroma sweet,
in his presence divine.
When devotees surrendered to his feet,
He ensured their future shine.
Ageless saint of India he was
Powers he possesed, one can't even think of!
Having a control over the elements
He removed devotess impediments.
Born out of waters of holy river, it is said!
The mystic yogi travelled through water and air.
With tangled beard and tousled hair.
Past, present and the future danced before his eyes
His commands were followed by entities of earth and skies!
With love and kindness was filled his being
Wrapped in a simple mrig chaal* he was seen.
Air would fill with sweet aroma with his presence
Spreading his glory of beatific essence.
A confulgence of knowledge and austerity
A repository of innumerable siddhies*
He lived with absolute detachment,
A godly being of purity and compassion.

Songs of the Seers
Dedicated to our ancient rishies this is on Devaraha Baba who is considered to be an ageless saint of India. Some say he had seen the Mahabharata era, others say he was born out of water. We don't know much about his birth but nevertheless he had control over the elements and emanated great love for everyone. His fan following was immense and attracted people from different walks of life.
A small story is shared by Bhanumati Narsimha in her book on Gurudev that once when Gurudev was young and having travelled the world serving Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, he wanted to start a new journey to bring knowledge to every section of society. He visited him in the dark night crossing the Ganges with the help of a boatman. The boatman refused initially saying Baba doesn't meet anyone at night and it was futile to go. But somehow he agress and take him across the river to his मचान. When Devraha Baba sees Gurudev he was overjoyed to see him, as though he had been waiting for him to come. He gives him a watermelon and blesses that knowledge should keep flowing like water across the world. And to this day Gurudev Shri Shri Ravishanker ji has been bringing the world together with knowledge, wisdom and meditation.
Regarding Devraha Baba it is said he had such सिद्धि that he could walk ovet water and tarvel anywhere without any physical effort. In his presence even wild animals would become docile. The trees like बबूल would have no thorns and there would be a beautiful aroma in the environment whereever he would stay.
He spent most of his life that is known to us on the bank of holy rivers on top of machan. He was always found in ईश्वरलीन अवस्था and in खेचरी मुद्रा
There is so much to his personality that it is impossible to write it down.
My poem is a small tribute to our holy man who kept the light of knowledge and wisdom alive and passed it to the coming generation.
