The legend of Santa !
Joy to the world the lord has come ,
let earth receive the king ,
Let every heart prepare him room
And saints and angels sing
And saints and angels sing !
The resonating lyrics of the Christmas carols always puts one in a positive frame of mind . It makes one forget all worries and anxiety and be one with the joy and happiness.
Christmas is the time of the year when family and friends come together to celebrate the birthday of Jesus of Nazareth . It is the time of the year when people exchange gifts , meet families and friends , decorate Christmas trees, attend church , share meals , sing Christmas carols and last but not the least excitedly wait for the arrival of the Santa Claus !
The celebration of Christmas has picked up fast in our country . During the ‘Christmas season ‘ we find all streets and shops decorated with Christmas trees and fancy lights . The Christmas carols fills the air with warmth and the Christmas cakes available this time are as tasty and tempting as it can get !
However this Christmas let us look back at the legend of Santa . In all this environment of fun and excitement let us go back into time and explore who Santa was !
One of the legend of Santa goes like this :
Saint Nicholas who was later known as Father Christmas or Santa Claus , was a very rich and a kind hearted man . He would often help needy people secretly . He lived around the 4th century in Asia Minor now Turkey .
Once while going somewhere he heard a conversation of a very poor man with his daughter regarding their poverty . He was so taken aback that he decided to help them . So secretly he climbed the chimney of their house and dropped a bag of gold which incidentally fell into a stocking that was hanging there for drying . Thus came the legend of Santa dropping gifts through the chimney and into the stocking !
According to the another legendary story of Santa , he lives in the North Pole . Going by the movies we see in Hollywood , he has a factory there ! He receives letters from children all over the world telling him about the gifts they want and he gets all those gifts ready with the help of his little ..the elf’s !
The most fascinating thing about the legend of Santa is that he travels through the snowy , flakey winter moonlit sky on a sledge pulled by reindeers , and drops down all the gifts through the chimney....
We have a lot to learn from Santa . The joy of giving...but in a very secluded manner .. not telling everyone stories about it “oh , I gave this , this and this to the poor and the needy .” Help others but don’t boast of it ... that’s the essence of Christmas !
Giving during Christmas does not only means giving gifts in its true essence but also giving love , giving thankfulness and giving forgiveness . Thus making this world a more joyful and a beautiful place !
So this Christmas just don’t go around party hopping and seeing decorations . Go beyond that ! See beyond decorations ! Do what Santa would have done . Be a secret Santa for a needy !
Merry Christmas
Hohoho!
