In this world where everyone is so particular about doing the right we have a contemporary novelist who dares to write a book and name it Wrong.
Well, let me tell you 'Wrong' by Shilpa Suraj has something that is not wrong at all. It is a love story that breathes spontaneity of characters and events and their topsy turvy emotional ride.
As I read the very first chapter, the prologue, it left me with a sense of WOW! The prologue ending with the following line; "Arvin was both her husband and penance" makes the readers sit tight with the book wanting to know more of what could have happened. In fact every chapter ends with a strong punchline that gives an adrenaline rush to the readers making them marvel at the quality of writing by the author.
Wrong is all about emotional roller coaster ride of three characters that are fighting their own fight in their own personal space. A love story or a love triangle that is very well knitted by author Shilpa Suraj. A story that begins with a crash of a car and a loss of love. With the paradox of finding the true love but landing up in a life where there is absolutely no love. Is there something wrong? Yes it is Wrong.
When the main protagonist decides to live with someone just out of guilt, pity and shame. How wrong and miserable life can be? Yet the story goes on with all the pomp and show of the well to do business family. Their social meets and dramas.
Ananya is a devoted girl who gives her heart away to someone just before her marriage and faces several consequences of making the decision which impacts the lives of Arnav and Arvin. Playing the lead Ananya's life is definitely not easy as it seems. She goes through personal inner fights in terms of her personal relations as well as her carrier. But that does not make her bitter in life. Simple dialogue like "Life is always simple. We are the ones who complicate." Speaks volumes about the complicated turns in Ananya's life.
A love story filled with traumas and ups and downs of personal and professional life. Ananya a thorough professional "fought for her clients like a street fighter wrestling in a mud." The lines tell a lot about the the professional spirit of the main protagonist. Yet at the same time Ananya says "I make my own happiness" shows how she has her priorities fixed.
The taut narratives not only carry the story forward but also makes the readers not get lost in the complicated ways of dialogues. The short, simple and crisp dialogues keeps the readers engaged. "Not everyone can ask for help." With anger, guilt and hurt swirling in a vitriolic mix inside her, Ananya shot back, " Sometimes, you need to hear the cries in their silence." "He loved her, until he hated her."
The story moves in flash backs, moving to and fro from the past to the present. Indeed a very difficult style of writing. Yet the author has been very clear in her way of putting up the storyline and has told the story with such a mastermind that its unbeileveable and the readers enjoy going back and coming to the present in the life of the three protagonist of Wrong. The style of writing definately makes the story more unique.
I picked a book in romance genre after a very long time and read through it like a breeze of fresh air. The book is not just about romance but also deal with the dignity of human character and values. The way Shilpa has characterised her protagonist shows her in-depth ability to understand human psyche is commendable. She has given fair importance to all the characters in her novel. There are no loose ends in the book. As we read we find that each character and each event is connected.
As the story progresses, the book makes the readers more inquisitive to know more about the characters. It is sheet brilliance that Shilpa has written the characters that they play in the minds of the readers as real walking and talking personalities. A romantic novel set in contemporary Indian background Wrong is a love story that revolves around three characters that are strong, independent and make a strong impact on each others life.
The end leaves the readers wondering in anticipation as to what more could have happened. That is another beauty of the author to keep her readers hooked and leave them with a sense of wanting to know more.
I was quite surprised to know that Shilpa has written 18 books so far! And by the time I finished writing this review she is up with two more new books! That calls for some accolades and celebrations and makes me marvel with her writing talent. This is the first book I have read of hers and I am really intrigued with her skills of setting stories in such a realistic fashion. Looking forward to read more from Shilpa Suraj!
