Gift your child the power of prayer !

Today’s life which is so full of hustle and bustle, with noises coming from different corners the
life of younger ones is also not spared! They too have different pressures coming from different
corners, such as schools, activities after school, TV channels, and electronic gadgets. These are
all noises which slowly take them away from themselves. They get so involved in all these that
slowly they start losing touch with their inner self!
Making them pray as a habit comes as a rescue then! Allow them to have some time for
themselves by talking to the Divine and thus, help them to develop introspective habits.
Prayers are not just chanting of mantras or some recitation of words, but they are a beginning of
the source of cosmic connection with the Divine. Prayers have the power of healing. Prayers help
to calm down the turbulence in the mind. Prayers also act as positive reinforcement to do
something good. When there seems to be darkness all around; prayers act like the silver lines
behind the clouds and give hope.
When to start teaching prayers to your child
  • Prayers have such vibes that even when the child has not learned how to speak, they can close their eyes and fold their hands in prayer by imitating you and feel the inner peace slowly.
  • Gradually when the child grows, teach them some small sentences on being thankful to God for all the lovely things they come across.
  • When they reach an age where they can memorise; teach them small mantras and hymns.
However at the same time, allow the child to keep having chat sessions with the Divine. Let them
have a heart to heart conversation with God. This will not only help them come closer to the
Divine, but will also help to develop an introspective attitude within the child. And gradually,
they will learn that their words in prayers have deeper meaning and power!
How to teach your child to pray
Praying is a learned behavior:
  • Like every other daily routine we inculcate in the child as a part of growing up like brushing, eating, studying, and playing, etc., the habit of praying also has to be embedded in them. And slowly, praying becomes a part of the system and starts coming to the child automatically.
  • When a child comes to the world they definitely don’t know how to pray and when to pray! However they observe you! They see and emulate what you do! So essentially, make sure whenever you are doing your daily prayers, your child is around to see it and feel it.
  • However the thought of praying or connecting to the Divine should not be limited only while visiting the religious places like temples, churches, mosques or a gurudwara. The prayers should come to the child naturally just like how breathing comes naturally to them!
  • Don’t restrict your child by saying that you can only pray while sitting erect or standing erect. Give them the freedom to talk to the Divine in different postures. Encourage them to have this chat while doing anything; sitting, standing, running, and sleeping. Let the child open themselves to the Divine however they feel comfortable.
  • Encourage them to pray daily. Even though it may be a small moment of silence, nevertheless it will help them come closer to God. And slowly, the child will develop a deeper understanding of the self!
  • Encourage the child to say a small prayer before starting anything... before starting his school, before starting his meals, before starting exams or tests, before starting a match, or even before starting a performance on stage! The small prayer said that time in their minds will help them to compose themselves, and get rid of any kind of anxiety that may come around that time! Besides positive words of the prayer will help them to go ahead confidently in their tasks.
Tell your child often that God has unending love and power. Nothing is big or small for God so
they can talk to God about anything! Also God loves to hear from them every day :)
Thus, with the power of prayers, your children will never feel alone anywhere for they will always
be accosted by their Divine friend with whom they can connect and chat anywhere and anytime
regarding anything! You may not be around your child all the time, but by gifting your child the
power to pray, you can rest assured that they will be with safe and secured hands!
