Kama and his parakeet
When darkness was covered with darkness,
And water was all around...
A life force emerged from Vishnu and Lakshmi
Kama, a seed of desire, was found.
Most handsome amongst gods and men
With complexion green,
A man was born, with golden wings unseen.
Uniting souls
The heavenly God of love,
Aroused passion in those
Wheresoever his angelic arrow repose.
Carrying a bow, of sugarcane, sweet and sugary
Soaked in honey and a line of bees
And arrows with fragrance sweet.
Decorated with flowers five
Lotus, blue and white
Flowers from Ashoka and Mallika trees...
Exotic jasmine and baur from mango sweet.
Accompanied by a parakeet,
With a shimmery green feather
Like emerald it shined
Singing songs of love in every weather.
With a beak red as a rose
Suka, was the chariot Kama chose.
He ventured to strike the three-eyed
To save the world from the tyranny of tyrants
The five arrows darted to strike the senses five
Piercing through Shiva's heart
Who sat oblivious in meditation.
Seething with fury, he opened his eyes,
With his wrathful gaze,
Turning Kama into dust.
But lo! when the arrow of love pierced Shiva's heart,
Incessant love flowed in his rampart.
He realized the folly on his part.
With regretful eyes, he looked at Kamas's dust
Which slowly blew into the thin air, with a tender gust.
The elements resonated with Kama's zeal
Who so ever breathed, a deep love they could feel.
Suka in trepidation had flown away
When his master was no more there.
To the world, his master's glory he began to share...
Singing his grandeur, far and wide
Even wise sages kept his wisdom in their hearts
Uniting with the infinite divine...
A love so deep-rooted, that no one could hide.
